It feels like I'm always out of town for the 4th of July, so it was nice to have a Staycation and just enjoy the four days without work and without having to be anywhere at any certain time. Here's a peek at my not so exciting holiday weekend.
When I woke up on the 4th it was quite overcast and on the verge of raining, so I did what anyone would do. I fell back asleep and enjoyed a nice cozy morning in bed. I had done some reorganizing in my bedroom the evening before and the late morning in bed was just what I needed to ignore my aching lower back.
I spent most of the day either in Target (they were open, I felt it was nice to help them avoid boredom) or at the house due to the rain. We cooked out on the grill for dinner right before a huge monsoon rainstorm came rolling in and it had moved on by the time we had finished dinner. The rain held off the rest of the night, so we were able to head downtown to the lake and watch the firework show. The actual fireworks were enjoyable — the man standing next to me that smelled like B.O. and alcohol, however, was not so enjoyable. Yes, I did try to move away from him, but as luck would have it, the wind changed and I could still smell him.
Ever since purchasing the new Benefit primer and MUFE's foundation, I haven't worn a different combo on my face. I am completely hooked and in love with both. I try not to pull 15 hour days in my makeup, so I'm not sure if the primer actually lasts that long, but it gets me through my days at the office and then some without having to touch up. If only they could make this stuff as a mascara primer so my mascara would stop finding its way onto my cheeks during an afternoon out running errands. I don't know why, but waterproof or not, my mascara always migrates during the summer months.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous the rest of the weekend. On Friday we went to see The Heat with Sandra Bullock. OMG! Hilarious. I honestly didn't expect it to be as funny as it was. Loved it! Saturday and Sunday we spent out by the pool. By that I mean, we spent the weekend in the pool. It was too hot and not enough of a breeze to sit in a lounge chair. So, my book and myself chilled in the pool. I'm trying to finish up Gillian Flynn's book Dark Places. It's very good, but I can't read it too close to bedtime or I find myself in a debate over whether or not I can sleep with the light off. Yes, at 26 I still debate this sometimes.
Publix has had the freshest looking blueberries, so I picked some up to try out a new recipe, which I'll be posting for y'all tomorrow. It's one of those desserts that you could actually pawn off on breakfast and not feel bad about it. I love when food can do double duty like that. I mean, breakfast for dinner is a genius thought is it not?
The Blueberry Boy Bait came out yummy. It would be perfect paired with ice cream for dessert. You could also make a sound argument for it at breakfast as well as it provides the calcium you need for the day (just sayin'). On the blueberry front, I can't wait to start reading The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Cafe once I finish this Dark Places book. I have a feeling I'm going to need something a bit more lighthearted after reading about a family massacre on a farm in Kansas.
For dinner Sunday night I made Grilled Salmon Kabobs. They were the perfect meal and it capped off a great holiday weekend.
Then, I decided to treat myself to an iPad. I had been wanting one for a while, but had been waiting for the best deal. Well, Target came around for the win. This week, they are offering a $50 gift card with the purchase of select iPads. Plus, with my Target Red card, I saved what the tax would have been. I had the cashier ring the iPad up separately so I could use the $50 gift card on the screen protector and the case. I do have a Kindle Fire, but honestly, I don't know how I lived without this baby.
That's it for my Staycation. What did y'all do to celebrate the 4th?
