Thanksgiving has come and gone, we survived Black Friday and now it's officially the Christmas season. I guess you could consider my November Favorites somewhat of a Holiday Gift Guide slash Stocking Stuffer Ideas, but nonetheless, these are the products I've been loving this month.
Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette: I picked this beauty up during the VIB sale at Sephora and I'm so glad I did. The colors are perfect for day slash work appropriate, yet I can smoke out the eye with that dark, matte brown color for night. Minus maybe one or two days, I think I've used this palette the entire month.
MAC Naked Lunch eyeshadow: It's amazing what you find as you dig around in your beauty drawer; I stumbled upon this long loved eyeshadow of mine and have been pairing it with the Lolita palette when I want a softer, less sparkly all over lid color. This is a great brow bone highlight, inner corner highlight and all over lid color. It's just so versatile and easy to use; I love it.
Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Temptation Body Spray (travel size not available online): Well, apparently we're going counterclockwise today with the favorites. I was standing in line at V.S. not that long ago and spotted this spray in that under $10 section they have right by the checkout (my downfall) and after sniffing a few scents, I settled on this one. I'm not usually a body spray kind of girl; I find they don't last as long as perfume and tend to be like scented water. I was pleasantly surprised at the longevity of this scent. Granted, it still doesn't last as long as a perfume, but it's great for running errands on the weekend when you don't want something too heavy or you've just gone for a run and then stop into Starbucks for a coffee and you don't want to see people slowly move away from you and your stink. The travel size comes in handy too since it's purse friendly (and in a plastic bottle).
MAC Soft Serenade lipgloss (limited edition, no longer available): I hate putting limited edition products into my favorites once they are no longer available, but this wouldn't be a true favorites post if I didn't include it. I did find a similar one by Bobbi Brown though. This color is pretty neutral and very similar to my actual lip color, but the flecks of shimmer step it up a notch. The shimmer is fine enough that I can't feel it on my lips and the consistency isn't thick or gloppy. I tend to keep this gloss in my purse because it's a quick application color that doesn't require a mirror to apply or touch-up.
Sephora 01 Honey Blonde Brow Pencil: Lately, my brows have been looking extra sparse to me and I don't know why. I pretty much never penciled in my brows, ever. I would use a little tinted gel to hold them in place, but that's about as far as I ever went with a brow routine. I had tried a cheap pencil from the drugstore and I don't even think the color transferred to my skin, the lead was so hard and dry. I also didn't want to spend a crazy amount on a high end brow pencil, so I scoured the Sephora makeup section and found this one. It's a retractable, twist up pencil, which is great and it has a little spooly thing on the other end to blend in the color. It's so easy to use and the color is perfect for filling in the little bare looking spots I have, yet it doesn't ever look like I filled in my brows. Love, love, love this brow pencil.
Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Texturizing Powder: Ahhh! That would be angels singing. I'm gonna be honest, I suck at teasing my hair, but I love to have volume at my roots (have to combat the humidity somehow). I have tried several root plumping mousses on wet hair (more on that in a second) and while they worked, I felt that the root plumper just didn't do enough on its own to keep the volume going all day long. I love that this product is a powder. It's super easy to apply, doesn't leave your hair looking greasy or gross, but it adds just enough grit to get that volume without teasing. It's a holy grail product for me and while it comes in a small shaker kind of bottle, a little goes a long way, so the bottle will last a long time.
Big Sexy Hair Root Pump: Like I said before, I've tried a lot of mousse products that are supposed to add volume to the roots when you blow dry and most of them I hated. They either left my hair feeling sticky, even after blow drying, or my roots ended up looking greasy and I just couldn't stand them. I noticed this one on the shelf at Ulta not that long ago and I was a little skeptical, so I bought the travel size version. That way, if I hated it I wasn't stuck with a huge bottle and if I liked it, I had a decent amount of product to keep testing it out to make sure I really liked it. This root plumper isn't heavy or gross feeling at all, it's very light, but gets the job done. I use a large round brush and pull my hair straight up while directing the heat at the root, which helps add a lot of volume at the roots. Once I'm completely done styling my hair, I'll go back in with the powder play and muss it into the roots a bit for added volume I may have lost during straightening or curling my hair.
L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara: I'm not going to lie, this mascara kind of creeps me out. It has the tubey thingy going on, which in English means when you apply this mascara to your lashes, it creates a tube around each individual lash to add length and volume. You don't notice it while you're wearing the mascara, but when you wash your face at night, you can literally pull the mascara gently off your lashes and it will come off in little tubes. Like I said, creeps me out a bit, but it alleviates mascara running down your face and having to go back in and clean yourself up with makeup remover after you've washed your face. Besides the obvious weird elements, this mascara really amplifies the look of your lashes and it tends to make my already blackish lashes look even more black. I only use the mascara side though, I don't ever use the primer side. I find that it takes a lot of extra effort to cover the white primer with the black mascara once it's on your lashes. Due to that, I kind of wish L'Oreal would make this mascara without the primer on the other end because I feel like I'm wasting.
