I've come across some great eyeliners on my never ending quest for the perfect, long lasting, highly pigmented, stays all day on my lower waterline eyeliner (I'm not picky at all), but none of them have ever really hit a home run. Sure, of the eyeliners I've tried, many have met some of the criteria listed in the longest sentence about eyeliners ever known to man (that would be the previous sentence in this post), but none have met all criteria.
I love pen liners for their staying power and high pigment, but they don't work on the lower lash line—at all. I'd say who cares, grab a different liner that works on the lower lash line and still use the pen liner on the top lash line. That seems so high maintenance though. Instead, I would stick with my pen liner and leave the lower lash line, well, liner-less. I did that for several months, but like all girls, I changed my mind. It is a girls' prerogative after all. About a month ago, I decided I was over the liner on the top lash line only, and that's when I found an advertisement for Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in a Real Simple magazine I was reading.
You know how the rest of this story goes. I (surprisingly) found myself in a Sephora, scribbling Marc Jacobs liners on the top of my hand, trying to decide which color I wanted the most, and eventually walked out with a small bag containing said liner in the color "blacquer", which is obviously the black liner. Black is my everyday liner shade, so it only made sense. I'd use it the most, therefore, find out if it's great or not.
Well, let me tell you—Marc Jacobs did a fantastic job. The highliner has the application of the pencil liner, which is obviously the easiest to apply. It wears like a gel liner and applies smooth like a gel liner as well. Plus, it has the staying power of a pen liner. It also lasts the absolute longest on my lower waterline, which is actually quite impressive. I realize the only liner that will ever last on my waterline is if I were to have it tattooed on, but get real; we know that's not going to happen.
On top of all the necessary product description, I must also note that the packaging is great. Either Marc Jacobs has a woman in charge of his beauty product packaging or he is very in tune with what women want because not only is the highliner a twist up pencil, but the bottom piece (the black piece in picture above) also pulls out and reveals a sharpener. A girl's dream come true! Your twist up pencil will always be sharp, and you never have to hunt around for a pencil sharpener.
Needless to say at this point, but you need to go get you a Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon. There are now 15 shades to choose from (several new shades have just been added), so you're sure to find at least one you like. Love it or hate it? Let me know in the comments!
