There's a reason black, shift dresses are an essential; you can literally wear them dressed up, dressed down, to work, out for date night or to a semi-formal wedding. I love how easy it is to wear this dress. The hem has a scalloped detail, so it has a life of its own without a bunch of fuss. I don't have anything else as versatile in my closet (except maybe my denim jacket) as my black shift dresses. Yes, that's plural.
First, the shift dress just fits my body the right way. I'm kind of straight up and down, with broad shoulders and muscular legs from all those years of volleyball in high school. So, those dresses that nip in at your waist just don't work for me; mainly because I don't really have a noticeable waist.
Second, black shift dresses can go anywhere. I recently wore this exact outfit to work for a Chamber meeting we were hosting, but I've also worn it more in a sundress style with flat sandals and a straw clutch.
Third, it's black. Honestly, I'd be okay if I wore black every single day. Actually, I did back in college when I worked for Seasons 52. Do you know how easy it was to throw on a black top, black pants, black blazer and black shoes? I'll answer that; it was SO easy! Which is exactly how I feel about the LBSD.
