The 3-Minute Peel

One thing I really like about monthly beauty boxes is the opportunity to try new products I'd never in a million years find on my own or risk spending money on just to hate it. I've discovered some amazing beauty products, but everything pales in comparison to the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel. I know that's saying a lot, but it's true.

I always wonder if my skincare products are working, and how long it takes to see results from incorporating new products into my skincare routine. Most times, it takes thirty to sixty days to really notice a difference in a change to skincare. That's hard to stomach, especially since we live in this instant results driven world now.

I'd never used an at-home facial peel because they honestly always made me nervous. I don't have sensitive skin, but the thought of a product being strong enough to literally peel a layer of skin off your face is nothing to enter into lightly. When I first saw the 3-minute peel in my December Birchbox, I was skeptical and nervous. I went to read the reviews on the Birchbox website, which by the way—all raving reviews. So, I spot tested a little on the top of my hand—no burning, no stinging, no weird feeling at all. As I started to rub the product into the skin, tiny balls started to form. It reminded me of when you get sunburned and the skin starts to peel; when you shower the skin starts to turn into these little balls on the surface of your skin before they wash away. Totally gross—I know. That's the only way I can think to describe it though.

I washed my hands, then decided to just go ahead and wash my face for the night and give the peel a try. Within seconds of circling the product over my face, the skin started to flake off and ball up all over my face. I focused on individual areas for a few seconds at a time: forehead, cheeks, chin, and nose. I followed the time suggested on the box, and by the time I was done I was grossed out by the amount of dead skin sitting on my skin. I washed my face again with soap to not only remove all the dead skin, but to also make sure I got all the product off my face as well.

My skin felt so smooth once I dried my face. Smoother than any exfoliating scrub or Clarisonic has ever been able to achieve after one use. I've already added the full-size to my next Birchbox because I really want to see what it will do with acne scarring over a longer period of time.
